Try your hand at fishing either from our pontoon in front of the lodge or charter our luxury yacht Ruru to take the action off-shore.

Both offer world-class fishing opportunities. See below for a variety of fish species on offer in the area.

Snapper

Availability: year-round but mainly October – April

Weight: up to 19 kg / 42 lbs

Length: up to 100 cm / 40 inches (minimum legal length 27 cm / 11 inches)

Snappers are excellent for eating with white flakey flesh and a sweet, delicate flavour.

Groper

Hapuku

Availability: year-round but mainly October – May

Weight: up to 20 kg / 44 lbs

Length: up to 150 cm / 59 inches (minimum legal length 27 cm / 11 inches)

Hapuku has firm, succulent white flesh and a delicate flavour.

Kahawai

Availability: year-round

Weight: up to 5 kg / 11 lbs

Length: up to 65 cm / 26 inches

Kahawai has dark, meaty flesh and is excellent smoked.

Yellow-tail Kingfish

Warehenga

Availability: year-round

Weight: up to 60 kg / 132 lbs

Length: up to 150 cm / 59 inches

Sought after as they make excellent catching and eating, kingfish have firm, succulent flesh.
